Tires - from the Porsche dealership what the heck !!
Hi
went on a bot of a search for a set of tires, hard to find..
called the Porsche dealership and they had a tire for the car
it is an INVOVIC Classic - in a 165 / 80 r 15 size, so I bought one to put on and use as my spare.
It actually looks okay..
Has anyone else had any experience with the tire ?

What did it cost?
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

They were very reasonable - $ 68.00 Canadian $$ so about $ 55.00 USD loose, unmounted.
They mounted well, no crazy weights required.
I thought great value for a new spare tire.

There is something special about driving on tires made in China. Dunno...

Millions of Chinese are driving on Chinese tires. Are they wrong?

ya.. I think I will have to look for the "made in China" label and take the dremel tool to it..
I have tried to stay away from anything Chinese on my car, I think a few brazilian parts - mostly Bosch..
my quest to find a set of 4 nice tires at a reasonable cost continues..
lots of negative feedback on some of the go tire types.. weight wise.
so .. still looking..

Reasonable cost and made in USA may just be a bit of an oxymoron Jim. Our labor cost and requisite profit margin prohibits competition. You will have to pay through the nose for tires made here or in Europe though Longstone may be what you are looking for and they advertise free shipping.

Regardless of country of manufacture, don't tires have to meet DOT standards?

yes but there is the quality index (rating A, B etc). Load rating and speed rating are the same globally, the devil is in the details. Since there is so much riding on tires (HAHA) i do not mind spending a few extra dollars on a high quality brand tire and not end up with a blowout or a tread separation after a few years. There is enough excitement in my life already.
The Chinese make stainless steel that rusts like hell, god knows what all they toss in the mix to manufacture cheap tires. I would not be surprised if a % was our old milk jugs

I would guess our cheapest tire is probably better then any tire produced when our 356s were built

Re: Tires - from the Porsche dealership what the heck !!
Anecdotal evidence is not evidence. There are plenty of studies and tests showing that, with rare exceptions, Chinese-made tires are just as well made, and as safe, as those from other countries when comparing similar traits, and all are required to meet DOT standards.
Consumer Reports tested 23 affordable tires and seven of those were Chinese-made. Six of those seven Chinese-made tires were rated in the top half of all 23 tires tested, meaning those six tested better than at least 11 non-Chinese tires. I don't remember what brands were tested but I'm sure you could google it.
I have no problem using Chinese tires.
