Air horns were offered as an option. Porsche would do whatever you wanted on you car, that allowed them to make more income. Looking at what you have I would evaluate this set as aftermarket. I have a 1976 BMW R90 that I have owned forever if you are interested in another bike.

Bill,

If factory equipped the Kardex will say Luft Brecher, translated as wind breaker

Fiaam Roadmaster horns were optional air horns on 356s as well as many other cars. Take a look at that air pump and see if it says Fiaam. The Fiaam air horns optional on 356s I've seen are candy apple red (and the electric pump is black) so yours may be from some other car.

My '60 had Fiamm horns installed. The horns were black plastic, the hoses were bluish-green and the pump had a black plastic cover over the impeller housing.
The dashboard-mounted switch had a black plastic lever at the end of a long metal stalk. Except for the amateurish wiring job, the installation almost looked factory. I removed them years ago, but still have nearly all of the parts lying around.

My '65 has them on the Kardex. I've cut and pasted them here but can't see them in the edit version or the preview (so if they show up in the published message, I can only ask WTF?)

Factory or aftermarket they are a critical safety item in my opinion. I’ve have them courtesy of a previous restoration and they are very helpful in making your presence known to the generally obtuse driving public.
