1957 LeMans Entrant

#1 Post by Ronald Sieber »

I was wondering if anyone had information about the #36 entry in the 1957 LeMans 24-hour event? I was messing around with my Precision Miniatures die-cast model (see enclosed assembly sheet) and it had a photo of the #36 entry at the bottom of the page. I then went to a web site that listed the entries for the year, and there were several Porsches entered. I've attached that image as well for reference. I'd be interested in more information about the team members, Slotine and Bourel, how well did they finish, as well as what the car's VIN was.

Thanks,
=rds

Thanks, Vic, for the historical info. I was also wondering if it was a flat tappet or a 4-cammer.

I'll look into the Pascal book. Michael Cotton's "Classic Racing Porsches" fell short.

Cheers

Ronald,
Interesting question.
I didn't realize that Speedsters ever participated at Le Mans.
I thought it was only coupes, 550's etc.
Were there other Speedsters at Le Mans?

In 1956, the same team came with a A coupe with a 1300S engine

Pascal's book calls it a Carrera in the photo caption, but the engine dimensions listed are for a pushrod engine.
It was the only other Porsche to finish; 13th OA. Chassis # 56007.

Yes, it was not a carrera. If I remember well, it's the one and only one 356 with a pushrod engine that did "Le Mans"............. except early 356 SL.

This car is supposed fitted with 40PII carburetors. "Old guys" told me that the car was modified at Sonauto: they made special intake manifold and ugly velocity stacks!

I know where parts are and I took photos................... sorry, photos are really bad!

The throttle rod is upside down.
" it's the one and only one 356 with a pushrod engine that did "Le Mans"............. except early 356 SL."
And the first two 550 coupes in 1953. BUT Pascal lists those cars with 4-cam bore and stroke; NOT correct.
