Door vin tag
I have a 61 Notch back and have completed my restoration and have the correct driver door ID tag but it is pretty nasty, beat up, I have bought a new plate but I don't have the small number die punches to replicate the original , does anyone know where I can buy a set or can someone punch these for me if I send the blanks and picture of the original ??

I think International Mercantile can stamp them, they have ads in the Registry.

Re: Door vin tag
The guys at Car-Bone can do it but you'd probably need to buy the tags from them. You may want to read some of the cautions from past postings about re-stamping VINS.

+1 on best using the original if you've got it. What else are you going to do with it?

If you're really dying for a 'prettier' one, make sure you rivet the new one on top of the one with some 'patina'.
Or, take Wil's and Thomas's advice and leave it right there; you won't have any "stories" to tell.

I have to agree with everyone else here, reuse the original even if it's beat up.

Re: Door vin tag
Without seeing the original tag, we don't know how beat up it is. I know where you are coming from. When I restored my '63 coupe, the old tag, scratched and paint scuffed off, just didn't look right against new paint so I had Terry at International Merchantile stamp a new one for me. One thing I noticed is that the holes for the rivets are slightly off from the original tag. Easily fixed.
So, depending upon the condition of the original tag and, if there are other parts that show age (patina), go with the original or have a new one stamped. The bottom line is that it is your car. What do you want to see when you open the door?

As such, understand if saving originality is of no concern, duplication is OK.Mike Wilson wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 3:32 pm Without seeing the original tag, we don't know how beat up it is.
