Correct glue reattach rear hardtop rubber seal?

#1 Post by Steve Raucher »

Hello and Happy New Year 356 gear-heads!
About a third of my rear bottom hardtop seal around and below rear window has come unglued.
Black color between bottom of rubber seal and where it attaches to top of fiberglass lip.
Do not want to use a glue that is off color when dry etc.
What is the best way to fix and best glue to use to re attach? Seems like it could take a while to do to get glue to set up and hold.
Difficult to get clamps in there without possibly damaging something.
Any you guys with hardtops just attach it to the car and let weight set it all back in place?
Thank you,
Steve

If you are talking about the hardtop to body seal, I didn't use any glue to attach it to the top of a friend's car. The PITA is the aluminum trim that is inserted in the groove of the rubber and wired on the ends.

Steve I would be tempted to contact Fibersteel. Your top may not be Glasspar but they do sell rubber for Glasspar tops also so they might be able to recommend a glue. https://fibersteel.com/collections/glas ... rubber-kit. Another alternative would be to contact 3M for their recommendation. https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company-us/ ... 815&rt=rud
