It appears to be a cab with a hardtop.
If so it might be easier to save than if it were a coupe.
The only problem is the VIN is for .a coupe

Somewhat of a mystery car

Dis-regard my previous post.
After further review I concede to the smashback theory

The link provided by David Jones provides us with a back-story on this former owner and how his old building and its "junk" got repurposed into something both useful and impressive. I'll have to visit that corner bar as well as check out the Forney Museum. Thanks for informing us, David!

Too bad they don't have a piece of an old 356 hanging up inside that structure...

How about this one: https://www.copart.com/lot/60184869 The real diamond in the rough. But the VIN in the 356a database says it would have a boxer engine, not a 4-cam.

I wonder how that silver C with a $500k engine got totaled for $80k of damage. I’d love to know what insurance paid out.

My old friend Bill sold this car to the Ingrams, who later brought it on the Grand with him as co-driver. Because they couldn't get it to run well at altitude, they borrowed the already tuned Solexes from my 912. When they returned the carbs, I went to re-install them but thought I had dropped a nut into the intake manifold. After using a borescope and other methods, I finally cranked it over by hand and found no resistance so concluded there was nothing in there. The 912 still runs fine! Anyway, I'm very sorry to see this car in this condition and hope it gets properly restored. Perhaps the damage happened during the building collapse.

It’s a shame that the fire and falling roof destroyed it. Im not sure how it is getting fixed structurally.

Well, the auction got stopped. I am assuming the ingram’s reached a deal with their insurance company and will rebuild it themselves.

To solve the muster, this car was a real 356B GT s90 lightweight and used in the Colorado grand when bob ingram was wooing Jackson to buy some of his cars. Hence the painted passenger side name.

It was in the explosion and fire that unfortunately damaged or destroyed many of ingram’s cars.

My expert didn’t think this car could be saved from the limited photos and that a donor might be cut in - which would mean the vin would be illegally swapped. I couldn’t do that. Let’s hope road scholars keeps detailed photos of the restoration to assay that future concern if ingram’s did indeed buy it back in

The other issue is the heat damage to the car. That was a serious fire.

I hope this car is restored and brought back to the road but it will always be seriously compromised. These B GT cars are so rare and special.
