Porsche Classic B/C muffler
Does anyone know how good this muffler is? And if it’s a Dansk with a new sticker?

Re: Porsche Classic B/C muffler
I do not know if it was a new one , but I just help install a Danask with th laser markings a few weeks ago. It was only off about 1/4 of a hole narrow, on the back cylinders. Was pretty easy to spread and realign.
I put a Swiss Stainless steel ( Below) with the twin pipes on a B about 6 months ago.. For the price the Swiss unit wins. But it does not use the stock dumperett S pipes, but it fit the best and was very will made.

My friend said his recent Dansk fit decently but had a crack or two after only 1000 miles, and was offered no warranty help.

Re: Porsche Classic B/C muffler
Dansk makes junk, and the company is a crap (being nice). I would say they are one of the worst suppliers out there. I would buy a part from a one armed man in a dark alley in Beijing before I ever considered any thing that Dansk literally has the balls to put their name on. Which would surprise me if they didn't know that their name would burn, flake, or fall off after their product's first use. And once you own of of their pieces of crap, you will know this because of how much time you end up spending inspecting the part after it fails on the first drive. If you buy Dansk expect to be ripped off. And don't buy the "Well they are better than they use to be story". That just really tells you how absolutely horrible they used to be because they have now improved from absolutely horrible to complete crap! Please somebody out there build a factory style muffler. We have other options on most of the other "crap" they sell. And let me emphasize again that Dansk just does not just sell crap. They as a company are crap (again being nice). Trust me I have tried to deal with them. They have no interest in talking to anyone one who has bought their product. They want you to talk directly to the retailer. But then of course they would. Nobody want to listen to people screaming at them all day, which is what they would have if they actually talked to people who have purchased their crap.

Re: Porsche Classic B/C muffler
I haven't checked the 911 or 912 Registries but are they having the same problems with Dansk products?
So, has anyone successfully restored the insides of an old Leistritz muffler? It seems that could be a opportunity for an entrepreneur.

There’s not very much inside. The outer shell is what rusts worst.

Re: Porsche Classic B/C muffler
is that a Swiss muffler or a GDP stainless Steel - ??
It is hard / very hard to get in / out of a T1 car, the top tubes are different than the original. The come much further out, and hit the rear valance.. so to take the engine out of the car, you have to take the exhaust off first.. the when putting the engine in.. engine in, then muffler back on..
As I said, I think this is only a problem on the T1

Re: Porsche Classic B/C muffler
Mike, I've built 2 1/2 copies of the original B/C muffler. I found a drawing of the insides posted here. There are three baffles and three internal pipes, not counting the four inlet pipes.
There are several different after market configurations, the beautiful picture John Brooks posted above is one. It is curious that Porsche chose the center outlet with the S pipes. I assume that they had a reason, so I copied it even though the 11" spacing, as in John's photo would have been more convenient and simpler.
Had I the time, I would dyno test both outlet configurations. As it is, it is hard to know whether any of the configurations has a power or sound advantage or disadvantage.
I have an A "competition" muffler sold by Stoddard years ago on my Convertible D. It has the 11" spaced outlets an exits just under the rear of the body. The exhaust tips tend to scrape the ground unless I exercise extreme care. That's why the T2s exited higher through the bumper guards.

Re: Porsche Classic B/C muffler
I’ll parrot what Mr. Brooks said about the Classic muffler. The flanged exhaust had to be spread about a quarter of the hole, other than that no issue.

I guess they are expecting that all heads have been flycut beyond belief. I've had to do the same !/4 hole spread in the last two installs.

X5000 on avoiding Dansk. My experience with their mufflers is that they are total POS. I did not have the fitment problems that others have posted about, but the cracking is totally ridiculous.

Re: Porsche Classic B/C muffler
Slightly off topic. I put a Marco Marinello ELEVENPARTS AG muffler on my C cab. It fits, it's pretty with it its two large pipes, but it's' too loud. Silk aka the fabulous Freda insists on wearing not only ear plugs but ear muffs from my bead blaster. Are there any inserts I can place in the pipes? I have purchased two sets of motorcycle exhaust pipe inserts -- neither fit. In desperation I have stuck on a stock muffler and it seems loud.
thanks
thanks

You have the S- pipes on your stock muffler? Somehow they seem to quiet it in spite of being straight pipes. Possible you could make inserts out of vw tailpipes, they come apart easily. You would need the contents of one or two vw pipes for each of yours.

Re: Porsche Classic B/C muffler
Bill, I was going to mention using motorcycle baffles, as found on older Honda machines. You may have to do some extra work to come up with reducers of some sort that will allow correct, tight fitting of the baffles but will constrict the outflow at the pipes...but not too much constriction.
