Mike, I think the Pre-A handle doesn’t grab me (no pun intended) the way the A handle does.
Clearly opinions here about to handle or not to handle are as divided as the thoughts in my brain!
:)
It’s a great problem to have.
Thanks all for the suggestions!

Found this chopped A handle? I do like this.

You can always mock up the different types of hood handles and see which one grabs you! Pun intended! Ha!

Hello all. Merry Christmas!
I would also like to make some changes to the badges in the rear. Mine are currently faded gold...I presume they must be original. Are these made of aluminum and could they just be polished to a silver aluminum finish? See pics of my car earlier in the thread.
Also the “60” badge is no longer applicable to my car since I have a Wills Werks 912 motor. I think given the other modifications to my car a “GT” badge would be most appropriate. I could buy this and polish it silver perhaps? I’d have to modify the badge so I don’t have to redrill the car. A local fan shop could help me with that.
Thanks for any advice

I am pretty sure the original emblems on your car are pot metal and would not stay polished for many days.

They are NOT pot metal. Early aluminum badges were aluminum; surprise. Later gold-plated ones were brass.

My sc has an early 911 badge on the nose. Its quite a bit larger than a 356 emblem and looks ok, it makes the car loon wider and loser When the car gets a resto, the handle goes back on.

I have never seen a car with OUT the hood handle and I have to say I love this. It makes the car look wider and lower and a bit meaner. A simple little badge might break up the wide expanse and add a touch of bling, though.

as to the vent screens and horn grill screens… Make some nice custom screens!

I would get a piece of cardboard and trace around the inside of the openings onto the cardboard. Next redraw that oval pattern 10mm smaller in diameter on the cardboard. Then I would cut out the smaller traced openings and use them to draw those patterns onto a wood 2x4.then cut the wood on a band saw or with a jig saw so you have 4 little oval pieces of wood that will slide through the body openings. Next I would take a router to the edge of each block… such that the edges of the block have approx 1/4 in radius but flat center sections. Then get some new flat stainless screen and smash the screen around each block with a mallet … so that what you end up with is a screen with a raised area that fits up perfectly inside the opening of the vent hole and flush with the outside of the body. This will look very purposeful. You'll need to experiment with cutting the outer area of the screen and the attachment method. You might also want to use a belt sander prior to routing the edges… so that the face of the screen matches the body lines better… and isn't simply flat.

Or possibly make the wood pattern the size of the lower recess instead of just the hole. Depends on which size appeals to you.

Craig, You’ve got a lot of good suggestions here.

When I see the front of your car, my brain is saying “something is missing”, which may be what you are thinking also. Maybe you should just put on a Porsche crest decal for a baby step. It’s cheap, easily removable, and lets you spend some time looking at it in day to day use while you contemplate more irreversible and costly options.

Also - I like the suggestions with the screens. I have a fully equipped woodworking shop an hour from your house and lots of wood scraps, if you want to tackle that project sometime.

to me it looks good just the way it is. The outlaw look should stay (even though I am one of the biggest originality freaks.!)
