I hear ya, Cliff. Not one of those common procedures. 5 years? Hmmm. I just clicked off 70, was able to renew my license and just might be cognizant enough in 5 years to watch a video. Keep me posted!

Re: how to remove split pin in transmission lock
I doubt the gearshift lock prevented any car thefts but it certainly kept anyone from stealing your shift rod.
It seems that once the original owner sold his car the first thing that happened was the shift lock key disappeared!

Re: how to remove split pin in transmission lock
I think the only thing the shift locked prevented from being stolen was the shift lock (when locked). Of course the perpetrators could steal the whole shifter assembly.....
Some days it's just not worth chewing through the restraints.....

Actually when it’s locked the shifter cannot be removed. It’s locked in.

The Asymmetrical block nuts that hold the shift shaft guide to the tunnel:
Vic, thank you for warning me about the offset holes on the fastener for the gear shift bracket inside the tunnel. I had noted the warning in an earlier thread when I was researching the subject, so this was one part of the project that didn't bite me and I got it together without making the mistake of not checking that the offsets hole for the alan-head screws were aligned such that the flange of the tunnel was secured in the correct orientation and position by the ribs on the special nut(fasteners) with the offset holes which had the photo posted for it. (One could conceivably not only get the offset hole incorrectly oriented, but one could also invert the fastener upside down?). I am getting ready to post a thread on distributor problem, because I am thoroughly stumped and I have spent hours pouring over old forums in hopes of solving an ongoing problem.
