There are all kinds of deterrents that have been suggested over time: shut off the petcock, shifter lock, the Club, remove rotor, remove coil wire, kill switches, etc., etc. but you are absolutely right: if they really want it, winch it on to a flatbed and go. The LoJack Classic might be a good idea along with a visible deterrent like The Club.
