1962 coupe and cabriolet owners - glovebox lock
Oddly enough, the glovebox lock on T 6 356Bs changed from a version with a domed push-button (outie) to one with a sightly dished version (innie) in 1962, from what I've been able to determine. So far, it is between February and August 1962. I'd like additional data points with chassis numbers and/or build dates. Can anybody help? I'm trying to get the book to bed in the next month or so.

Re: 1962 coupe and cabriolet owners - glovebox lock
I'm going through the book making a revisions page on the Gallery section of the www.tpr-inc.com so everybody with early printings can benefit from changes in later editions. At every printing of 1000 books updates are made with the majority occurring at the second. I was disturbed to have missed the unresolved text on page 135 where it states:
The 356B had a different lock with similar appearance. The pushbutton lock was modified from domed to dished surface in FEBRUARY/AUGUST 1962.
Well, it says that because I was hoping that people with cars built during these months would reply to the initial inquiry, but nobody did. This is really pretty easy to do -- I don't need photos. This is not a part that would typically be replaced for any reason. If you don't know when your car was built -- no problem -- I can find out from the chassis number. These are all T 6 356Bs

Thank you Larry. It is possible that they changed at slightly different times at Reutter and Karmann, but generally they are pretty close. Anybody else?

So, the February to August interval is now narrowed down substantially: March 26 still convex, June 29 now concave (both Karmann examples).

1 or 2 in the middle is good enough for me!

BTW, There are only two part numbers for these glove box lid locks -- see below -- that does not mean there were not two versions of the A/B locks. Those who have a copy of the Factory Kardex will find the lid lock key number listed in the upper right hand corner of the Kardex.
644 552 550 05 for A/B currently available from Stoddard NLA under p/n: NLA 552 550 -05 -- has concave button.
644 552 550 06 for C not available except on the used market like Ebay.

It is probably not a surprise to anyone that the parts catalogs didn't get everything exactly right. This is the value that unaltered cars have in determining the way things actually were done. I've benefitted from many owner supplied facts and photos through the years and passed them along to those who are interested.
Now I'm looking for cars with factory options (rare and common) for the ongoing website project. It is my intention for all of this to be published in the magazine, as well.
