let's hope he is not going to build a tribute(fake) speedster or even worse a 550. they drive the same and look better than real ones.

Agreed. But given the price bump I think there is a chassis waiting for it.

The Carrera Speedster owner is a friend of mine. I know the car pretty well.
He does not want to sell the car but can't really afford to buy the motor.
If you happen to come to a Novato Cars & Coffee event, you may get a chance to see the black Speedster.

If he`d let that Speedster get back together with its engine.....he could buy ANY Speedster he likes!

Yeah, but not a Carrera Speedster. Plus it is a very early car. One of the first few made.

Well, if he really wanted a Carrera Speedster......he`s got a chance to complete his car with the original engine being offered on the open market......does`nt get much better than that! How many guys out there with Carrera Speedsters who wished they just had a CHANCE to buy their car`s original engine??

Bill, he is well aware of the motor and has been for some time. It's just a ton of $$$$ for him.

It just goes to show not all of us are not wealthy and bought our cars when they were cheap and couldn't afford to buy them now.
I couldn't find the original engine for my 59 GT but did acquire a 59 RSK engine.
Since it was sold I now know where the original engine is but not for sale.
The new owners problem!

When I was ready to sell my 57 GT Speedster 25 years ago, it had an engine 11 numbers off. I knew my orig engine case existed, but where? Dick Koenig was instrumental in procurring "my " engine case.....and we were able to make a deal. That was a "miracle reunion" of car & engine.......one of my best Porsche memories. I sold my car to buy the building/shop I`ve been living in since. I`ll never regret that decision. Now, some 25 years later, my 1957 Carrera GT Speedster will be on the auction block in the "TajMaGaraj" collection Sept 28th I believe. This time it will sell for 10 times what I sold it for to the late John Hanning. Dick Weiss also was instrumental in the sale of my Speedster. Sometimes you get lucky enough to strike that rare deal!.....hope it happens here.

Please read my previous posts for the true story of this engine/car history. I was friends with the long time owner for decades
until the new owner's purchase of the car within the last few years. I have owned the engine since 1990, the car has been in the new owner's possession for 2 or 3 years.
This isn't the situation as described by Norm"s post - maybe on my side perhaps. It is a difficult situation to resolve for sure, but I have now moved on from trying to
purchase the car.
Engine is being auctioned on Bring a Trailer, ends tomorrow at 3.
Final thought, is any Carrera a Carrera without it's heart?
