1500 RS Carrera Engine

#1 Post by daniel jensvold »

I am attaching a link to a just listed auction on Bring a Trailer for my 4 Cam Carrera Engine out of
a 1955 Carrera Speedster. It's an engine I have had since the early 90's and it's time to sell.
Check it out, it already has some interesting comments and historic information.

Dan.......reading the comments on the auction, sounds like the Speedster owner & yourself could`nt get together on a price for the engine some time previously. I think you both should get together with BaT and have a "super auction".....put the car & engine together as a package and see how it goes. The value of both the car AND the engine have just risen in value, IMO, and would get worldwide attention with their reunion. Let`s face it, the car and engine are very significant in Porsche 356 Carrera history! Good luck!

Hi Bill
that was my recommendation years ago when Dan found the engine and I put him touch with the former owner of the car.

Unusual placement of the coils and air filter design, but not having the Speedster to go w/it + the exhaust head pipes to be mounted into a "Duner", that's understandable; Good thing it didn't happen!
BTW, the engine is listed in chassis #80817--the 3rd '55 GS Speedster1st owned by Fisk(?)

Bill ,
Believe me, I waited for years to work a deal with Earl Fisk who was the owner of the Speedster from the mid 60's until a few years ago. I always thought it
would be the ultimate project to put the engine and car back together and DRIVE it. But, somehow it has escaped me.
The new owner is not financially inclined to buy the engine from me, nor does he want to sell the car presently, at least, so I decided to get a new GT3 Touring instead!
A 64 year advanced version of what the Carrera Speedster was in it's day so I think it's a good trade.
So here we are, the Super Auction sounds like a great idea, I hope the new owner of the car is encouraged to consider it.

Hi Bill
the caps are period and the wire routing is nicer but you can not use the big boots

I never needed or used any distributor boots--the engine never had 'em when I bought my GS car in 1960.

Good luck with the sale - looks like its getting a lot of interest. These engines are very cool but hard to live with on a daily basis. They do make a glorious noise though.
I'm so glad I was able to get engine #90009 back into 550A-0022 - it raced at Sebring in 1955 with that engine so I really wanted to get the two back together.

Too bad the owner of the Speedster owner couldn't work out a deal - hopefully it will happen sometime down the line.

That would be fun to unite the speedster and engine. I wonder what the high bidder intends to do with it?

Hi Richard
let's hope he is not going to build a tribute(fake) speedster or even worse a 550. they drive the same and look better than real ones.
