I looked at a Carrera Speedster not too many years ago that was not likely to be a real Carrera. It was reported to have been bought from Stoddard in the 70s without an engine. It appeared to be a 57 Speedster with all the correct parts and long ago the owner sorced a late C2 engine. The vin stamp was not close to correct and the explanation was maybe a salvage car. It was sold to a shop that started a complete restoration. Who has that and what do they have and what do they know?

Crazy story Tom! Thank you for sharing and all the sleuthing! I somehow feel some story like this will come up with 86124 at one point. one of 2 carrera convertible Ds that popped up fully restored out of nowhere (wearing a Reutter badge no less)
