Bespoke backseat luggage

#1 Post by Dave Whittick »

Can anybody recommend a vendor for custom luggage? I've received a quote which seems quite high for a 3 piece set although I'm sure the quality is top notch. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

There was recently a set of Mercedes luggage offered on Bring a Trailer. The manufacturer of that luggage was mentioned in the comments and, as I recall, it is custom made and very expensive.

If you Google the topic, "356 Porsche luggage", there is another manufacturer listed that makes custom luggage. I haven't followed up on it so I don't know the costs.

I had heard that the gentleman that had made the reproduction trunk luggage for the A cars was working on the luggage for the T-6's but I haven't heard anything of late.

Thanks. I wasn't expecting them to be cheap but $6000 for 3 cases seems really expensive. I was thinking between $3-$4k.

I have no idea where the market is with regards to the luggage whether original or reproduced. Both are in very limited numbers. Several years ago a set of original T-6 luggage sold for $3000. I would imagine the prices for original luggage has appreciated considerably and the costs to reproduce the luggage is also very costly.

There are several small manufacturers/artisans in the US and UK that make "fitted luggage" for sports cars including Porsche. They mostly cater to the Mercedes and Ferrari guys -- serious 300SL Gullwing show cars must have fitted luggage!. Porsche always offered luggage in their program and does so even to this day. However, until recently, fitted luggage has not been a popular with option and seldom seen on display at concour events. "Fitted" is the word as you can see in this 300SL below

However, lately there is renewed interest, so here are a couple of vendors that could build a set :

Suggestion might be is to check with Mercedes guys as to which vendor is best recommended.

I had 20 of these made locally and this is the last one I have. We used Teklam, a strong lightweight material used in the private jet industry for bulkheads and cabinetry. These were offered by Porsche as an option in the 356B accessories catalog.

Steve, the small cases in your set look almost identical to my originals. The plaid lining is different and my hardware is brass. Yours look very nice. I only have the two small cases, not the large third case.

Nice widecase Ducati single in the background!

Mark
Thanks!
It’s a ‘70 350 Desmo...runs like stink!

The bottom case has eight metal recesses in its lid to correspond with four each top case protrusions in each corner locking them into position precluding movement while underway.
The luggage is for sale if anyone is interested they can contact me off line as this is not trade site.

I have never seen the large piece. I bought the two smaller pieces some time ago basically on a whim from a German shop that happened to have them.

I have a ‘67 250 Mark 3!
