Recommended Book for Engine Overhaul

#1 Post by Ken Tuvman »

Hi Everyone,

We have to open up motor on '61 356B Super - car had sat for many years - we've had it running but left side wasn't running as well as right side - she developed a knock so we're pulling motor and will examine and rebuild.

Looking for a suggestion on a book that provides illustrations and all the tolerance specs.

Thank You,

Ken

+1 on factory workshop manual & "Porsche 356 The Engine Handbook" by Cole Scrogham (Block's Books) is a very good guide & full of exceptional photographs.

I dropped my first engine using Harry's book, worth every penny. It's written with the dude in his garage in mind, not a professional mechanic. Too many manuals are written with the trained mechanic in mind, they take a 15 point fix and boil it down to 4 points, which is great, if you've worked on cars for years, not if you haven't and don't know the basics.

Elfrink's manual is also detailed well, too--at less cost.

I rebuilt my first engine using Elfrink as guide back in early 70's. Harry Pellow's books are more detailed and great to use also!
