BR18 distributor rebuild service?

#1 Post by Harold Singh »

Folks,

Most of the threads that came up on my search referenced links that are not good. Who’s is a go to rebuilder that can promptly exchange or rebuild my BR 18? It definitely needs springs since the advance is very sticky and doesn’t snap back. I’ve done those on my other distributor before but, I’d rather just be sure it’s gone through.

Although I have not used these folks, I have heard people speak highly of Bruce Smith (C.F.I.) in Pennfield, New York, John Jenkins (Carb Rescue) in San Diego, California and Ed Fall in Salt Lake City, Utah. I believe the first two are listed in the vendor resources list.

Bruce Smith has done a couple of things for me and I'm happy with his service. I'm sure any of the gentlemen mentioned will do a great job.

I've had Ed Fall do several of mine, still work fine. I go with whoever is cheapest given the reviews are about the same.

I'm about to rebuild a -BR 18 distributor which has the same problem.
I've rebuilt many didstribs during my 60 years of many mechanical restorations of 356s and 912s.

I have used Bruce and Ed would use them again. Happy every time. We are lucky to have people that specifically work on small parts on our cars. I try to support them all when I can

Mine took right at 2 months. I was not in a hurry, so did not press them for anything quicker. Very pleased with their responsiveness and how it looks. Haven't installed it yet.

I did an exchange from Partsklassik a few years ago. Excellent work.
