Sway Bar

#1 Post by Bill Lawless »

Yet another question:
I've been driving my SC around without the Sway Bar in and it seamed to drive just fine. After I finished new King/Link Pins and while it was on the lift
I put in the Sway Bar.. Now when I drive I notice this annoying bouncing feeling, the smallest bump or no bump makes it hop around.. I don't think the new king/link pins
could be causing it?? Shocks are also new.
The sway bar is a thicker aftermarket, could this be causing this bouncing?

-Bill
 Thanks,
Bill

A sway bar would only increase the bouncing if only one tire hit a bump. If it bounces when both wheels hit it must be binding in the suspension, my guess.

What size sway bar? Stock?

Does the bar move somewhat freely in the chassis mounts. I had an aftermarket bar that was so tight in the mounts that is made the ride unbearable.

Prior to the new link pins, was the sway bar being used?
If the new symptoms are showing up after the pins were installed, then your problem is not with the bar. Since the 356A,B & C cars were produced with sway bars as standard, there should be no reason to have the bouncing you describe.
Check that everything in the suspension is tight and that the sway bar mounts are secured properly. Some silicone used on the rubber mounts will allow the bar a bit more movement up and down.

Was the tor-in reset after the link pins? It needs to be to drive correctly.

It is a thicker bar maybe it's to tight in the mounts? I'll check that..

The sway bar has been out sense winter so I don't have a pre link pin with the bar in..

If the alignment is off would that cause it?

Bill

Have you tried to take the sway bar back off to confirm or rule it out as a cause?

That's my plan Kevin, well I'll just disconnect and tie it up.. I'm trying to heel up some broken ribs at the moment...
