Porsche 356 Dominates Hershey Hillclimb!

#1 Post by C J Murray »

Ok, the headline is a bit sensational and exaggerated. I don't know how the cars finished but everybody was having fun and the weather was perfect. I went to see Chris Duerr run his beautiful Speedster. Here are a few pictures. Note the right front fender of the Marcos and do you know what the yellow car is.

Autodynamics built Formula Vees for a long time and this link shows pictures of the same car I think.

If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

I see Fast Eddie Hyman was there. I had a great chase with him in my 356 B at Lime Rock in May. Looks like you all had a great time.

You should have seen the orange car when I found it, love to see cars being used that were left for dead.

"...do you know what the yellow car is."
Cliff, that Sprite? Or did I miss something?
Ooops! Yes I did. I have no idea, not even from R&T ads from the '60s.

David was right...Autodynamics Hustler and that one was owned by Sam Posey who had part ownership in the company. My first reaction was that somebody put a Porsche engine in the back of a Lotus Elan!

He got a little exuberant and went well off the course between two trees. Maybe we should say almost between two trees. I think it escaped structural damage.

Gotta ask, where does the cooling air get into the engine?

The Autodynamics Hustler was an obvious knock off of the Lotus Elan, intended to sell as a kit car. (Autodynamics was good at that: Ray's original FV owed a lot to the Porsche 718 F1 car, The Deserter looked like they took a mold of a Meyers Manx, The Hustler, the Elan.) I have the original literature describing the Hustler. I was disappointed that the Hustler never took off. It proved too expensive. I suspect that less than 5, and maybe only 1, complete cars were built, and that very few kits were sold.

The Hustler, could one be liberated, might make an interesting contribution to the current mini wave of Devon Ds running in vintage racing.

I see that the article, referenced above, says that 43 "were built" The completion rate on kit cars (or airplanes) is small. But there may still be a few out there.
