OIL SUCTION TUBE
I'm planning on putting my engine mostly together tomorrow, but I have a question about the oil pickup tube. the engine no. is 616.101.102.01 and it has the large oil pump. the pickup tube is slightly lose ( pivots up and down ) should I be concerned. will the oring and 3rd case part tighten it up when installed? I don't think it can pivot to far up as it will hit the case but I would like it to stay were it belongs.

Re: OIL SUCTION TUBE
Jay,
The magnet assembly on the original or any aftermarket sump plate will prevent rotation of the intake tube, and the O-ring will prevent any peripheral leakage at the case/timing cover surfaces.

Re: OIL SUCTION TUBE
There is a pretty easy P-tool to expand the tube and firm it up in the case. I have one you could borrow if you want. It look similar to the Distributor drive tool. Takes a minute to re sewage the pick up tube. PM me and I will get it off.

Self wicking Loctite, 290, will lock and seal the tube in it's correct position. Use the sump screen attached to the 1/2 side of the case to position the tube in the correct location prior to applying the 290.

John; that tool is for re-swaging the early small tube. I have always used a suitably sized socket and a hammer to accomplish the same thing.
Tim; not necessary with the large tube.

mines tight but can be move up and down. I think as long as the o-ring in the 3 piece fits good it should be ok. it just bothered me that it did move. i'm with Vic a slight tap with a hammer and a socket and all should be good. i'll do a trial fit when I get the 3rd piece back from Vic.

Re: OIL SUCTION TUBE
Jay; you don't need to tap the large tube. That's only for the small tube. The large tubes are all slightly loose. The O-ring takes care of that.

Jay,
Turn the engine case w/the oil sump facing upward and centralize the oil pipe to the split-line so the sump plate's screen will fit. Not having the 3rd piece installed, use a rounded end pin-punch to lightly indent the inside of the tube in 3-places where it's next to the case's face; You don't need the special tool that expands its 'balls' to do the same thing.

BTW, I'll probably be corrected about the special tool having expanding 'balls'--or not; I never had the tool.

Tim pointed out that the screen aperture 'clocked' the intake.
I (and Vic) pointed out that the O-ring prevented any peripheral leakage.
You're done.

Re: OIL SUCTION TUBE
Dick; that is ONLY applicable for the small tube. We are discussing the large one here.Dick Weiss wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2019 9:56 pm Jay,
