Re: Aerial hole on right side hinge post
No Roadsters or Conv Ds so far -- any RHD ones out there? Also based on Mike R's comment do all RHD cars not have one on the left side? We'll assume 356Cs do -- are there any RHD Karmann cars?

Re: Aerial hole on right side hinge post
108707 August '59 RHD T2 has them both sides.
The theory in UK is that the aerial should be the drivers side for ease of extending it and also it keeps the aerial out of the way from pedestrians when the car is parked parallel to the street.
Another point from the photographs is the washers behind the bolts holding the door hinges to the body.
The parts list shows 16 bolts per car and only 8 washers.
From original cars I have seen it appears that Reutter put them on the front bolts while Karmann put them on the rear bolts!!
Drautz on the otherhand used washers on ALL 16 bolts!
There does not appear to be any reason which bolts have washers.
Although it is not good engineering practice to have a bolt tightening up on a slotted hinge.

looks like the two grease nipples are missing to lubricate the hinge pins!

My 1960 Drauz Roadster 87724 has the hole on the left side only. It's LHD and has an aftermarket antenna on the right side that does not go through where the hole would be. My dad had it installed in the early '60's when he had a radio installed under the dash. No idea why the antenna was put opposite of the driver.

Re: Aerial hole on right side hinge post
Both my T5 coupes (build dates Sept ‘60 and Nov ‘60) are RHD Australian delivered.
They both have aerial holes only on the right hand side.
Both are fitted with period radios and aerials.
