Best time to break down
I remember hearing the late Harry Pellow said the best time was in your driveway. I got off at my exit today and the gearbox in the truck started acting crazy, being only a few miles from my house I decided to limp it home. I turned onto my street and the strange sounds got a lot louder, I literally coasted into my driveway.
Of course, I was running on fumes too, back to back trips are starting to remind me I'm not 20 anymore. I walked in the house, said hi to everyone, and went to sleep for 3 hours, only waking for dinner.

Glad it made it home. Have you considered an American Made truck like a Toyota Tundra?

Ford Dually with a diesel and a 5th wheel. Once you tow with that you will NEVER go back to nail biting agony again. Arrive home feeling fresh, no stress.

Re: Best time to break down
I've found the Japanese trucks can't hold up to lots of work. I've had a Tundra and a Titan, both looked the part but while they talked the talk, they had a harder time walking the walk. My last truck was a Chevy Silverado which I still have with over 200000 miles, never done anything major to it. So I bought another 2014 Silverado to replace it, it only has 70,000 miles and I'm suspecting that the overdrive went boom, raining pieces throughout the gearbox. I'm guessing there is a new gearbox is my future.Larry Brooks wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2019 10:35 pm Glad it made it home. Have you considered an American Made truck like a Toyota Tundra?

I hear ya, but you tend to triple the price when you start talking about equipment like that. My last Silverado was a standard 1500 and carried me through 200000 miles abusing it to no end.C J Murray wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2019 6:26 am Ford Dually with a diesel and a 5th wheel. Re: Best time to break down
Two lucky breaks, first the gearbox was covered under the warranty, which runs out in December so good timing truck! 2nd I never got rid of the old truck still using it in the winter and around the house, so I pressed it back into service for a run to Boston yesterday. Getting the trailer up the narrow lakehouse driveway wasn't very fun, backwards.

Re: Best time to break down
Best part about the lake today, that last deal I did in Rhode Island for the 3 cars, the guy gave me a canoe. We have a pond out back of the house that we had never checked out, so we put the new canoe there, we're probably the only people who have been on that pond in decades, it's in the woods.
