Al Zim says the spacer started when they changed the fan housing to volute style intake sans screens. He also pointed out spacer NOT in A parts book bit IS in B parts book.

My '58 cab has the original engine & does not have the paper/cardboard gasket. Perhaps someone was shimming it out for fan clearance purposes?
