locked engine lid

#1 Post by Daniel Blumenfeld »

According to a member in Finland, there is a factory instruction for
unlocking a locked engine lid when the cable broke. Please send or
describe the method. Thanks very much.

Depends on the car. If it's a T-6B or a C just remove the left side engine grill (4 nuts) and you can get to the latch that way.

In 1956 the German's were looking for the world market. The first A model.
In addition to having the lid locked imagine how long it would take to find a 5-6mm steel rod.

A trip to a machine shop would have been in order.

I tried opening engine lid without using the normal release as an exercise, by sending a long small blade screw driver down through the engine grille to slide the keeper in and release latch. It worked. I would only do again if my release cable broke. There is no visible hole with rubber cap as shown in the above post, in my T-5 coupe. For the frunk, there is a visible port with cap in the front drivers side wheel well so I installed an auxiliary cable.

I ALWAYS put a second cable out the side of the Trunk. Use a standard pull cable in a tube so it fits like the one under the dash. Black knob, so it can't easily be seen. ………...Jim.

Ahh...the voice of experience!
Fortunately, I haven't had the experience yet, but have seen the result of someone opening the engine lid with a pry bar. I'm with you, adding second cables of bicycle stainless brake cable, where the factory did not.
