to the repair shop

#1 Post by George Hussey »

this is what happens when one lets the car sit too long. Inside climate controlled storage, over inflated tires, gas stabilizer, battery out (of course) but now will only start with a toot of starting fluid.

Likely the zeniths need some TLC.
Accelerator pump diaphragm likely has gone stiff.
Also, the leather pump plunger has dried out.

I agree, clogged lines, bad fuel pump diaphragm , stuck floats (car has solex) bad gas (even with the stabilizer (did not smell bad though))

Take a look at the accelerator pump injectors. Are they squirting? Are you getting fuel to the bowls? A little investigative work should point to the problem.

Yes. I have been surprised at how a 356 cannot start at all without accel pump working, as if it had no spark.

Parking light bulbs in the headlights. Did you add those or were they always there?

My old man picked up at the factory a 1964 C, and it had bulbs in the headlights. Yet I think that configuration stopped much earlier, no?
