Cover for my 356C, with Nomex for exhaust pipes?
Hi all,
Our beloved 1965 356C is living in a "car port" for a while - in other words, a garage that is open on both ends. I had a cover for her that I bought 20 years ago, and it had Nomex or something like that in the exhaust pipe area. I need another cover, but I can't find anyone who makes that any more. Any suggestions (or ideas why it's not available?)
I think the old one was CoverKing, and Mosom IIRC, but their website says, "CUSTOM PATTERN UNAVAILABLE FOR THIS APPLICATION." When I fudge it and put in a different year and model, the only options are for number of mirrors and color of the cover.
Any suggestions would be welcome!
Thanks!
Elizabeth

Here is an alternative that might be of interest, Elizabeth. This could turn your car port into an enclosed cover: https://covercarconcepts.com/

Hi Jeff and all,
Thanks for the suggestion, and I'll bookmark the link, but the garage is actually open to the public, so I'm looking for a car cover, not something that looks more like a structure (the management would probably object.)
Thanks again,
Elizabeth

Wait! I just found CoverKing on Pelican Parts' website, and THEY offer the Nomex as an upgrade. Really weird that (1) CoverKing's website doesn't offer it and (2) my Google searches didn't find that on Pelican's website.

I have used California Car Cover for years. Nomex seems like overkill-or a scam.

Nomex is a flame and heat resistant material that might make sense if one plans to cover the car and the cover might contact the hot exhaust pipes immediately. I let the engine cool down before installing any cover to prevent condensation from forming inside the cover. By then the exhaust pipes are plenty cool and won't damage a cover from excessive heat.Harlan Halsey wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 5:21 am I have used California Car Cover for years. Yes, that's exactly why I want the Nomex by the exhaust pipes. I can't always wait for the exhaust pipes to fully cool down, and I had an experience years ago when I goofed and let the cover slip in just the wrong way, and the cover touched the still-warm exhaust pipe, but not in the Nomex area of the cover. Melted a big hole in it in an instant, and the pipe was only just barely too hot to touch.
Thanks for the input everyone!

Maybe the solution is to find a good outdoor cover and have a Nomex skirt sewn in the rear where the pipes touch?

It _seems_ (but I haven't received the item yet to prove it) that Pelican Parts offers CoverKing outdoor covers and has the Nomex patch as an option! Saving me having to do it myself. But odd that CoverKing doesn't offer that themselves!
