Fuel Petcock Gasket

#1 Post by Rick Wall »

I have a new fuel tank petcock for my 1962 B coupe. I am fastening the petcock to a new tank. I would like to ask for advice, is the gasket/seal between the tank and the petcock a red fiber ring which was part of the new petcock unit, or should there be a rubber O ring. The red fiber ring seems a bit too large to fit inside the fasting nut. thanks.

Rick: Stoddard has a diagram of the petcock showing the gaskets, etc. Go to the Stoddard site, 356, fuel system, petcocks to see it.

Red fiber ring; definitely no rubber.

We're glad we could be of help. As an aside, the cork gasket in the kits is a bit thick. You may have to make it thinner by sanding it.

I am installing a complete, new, petcock, so everything came assembled. Just the red fiber seal is a bit too wide for the fastening nut. I will try your sanding approach on that for an easier fit.
thanks,
Rick

I've never had to futz with the red fiber washer, just the cork.

Mike, I will take another look at it to see if I can move the fiber ring past the threads.

10-4. I know it's a snug fit.
