Turn signals not working
I have a 6v Optima battery with 6.3 volts full charge. My directionals will not flash. I have Cu led's in back and the rest of bulbs are are led. The flasher is electronic and new. Ever when running engine,no flashers. I did swap flasher and it did not help. I thought about changing the directional stalk but as a last resort. Car is a 64 coupe. I have not checked generator or regulator. All my fuses have power as does the flasher socket. Any ideas?

Hi Tom. When did it stop working? Has this setup ever worked for you? Do you have a good ground on the new electronic flasher?

Hi Bruce,
The directionals worked before. When they quit,I bought another flasher unit same as other. It is not grounded. sometimes when I hold the stalk in a certain spot. the lights come on but do not flash. This is not the case right now.

Re: Turn signals not working
Sounds like the flasher stalk Tom. Check the connection block first before changing out the flasher stalk. If you have the wiring diagram and a digital ohm meter you can check the stalk for operation in situ by checking continuity from the connection block.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Re: Turn signals not working
I thought the flasher unit has to be electronic and grounded when using LED lights ??

Re: Turn signals not working
It does! The only flasher to use with the CuLayer's is one with a pigtail ground wire such as Zim's has offered.
Added By Edit: In the past Jim has offered a correct relay on his site. I just checked the site and do not see mention of the relay being currently available, but I would check it first hand just in case it's an oversight.

Re: Turn signals not working
I'd use a grounded electronic flasher unit since the turn signals we're working before you installed one that is not grounded.

Re: Turn signals not working
Tom, try putting all the original bulbs and flasher in. I have had issues with the LEDs. If that fails you know it is in the turn signal switch. Good to chat with you the other day. Jim.

Re: Turn signals not working
Note the wiring colors from the switch do not match the wiring colors from the main harness.
In some cases, it's been necessary to fiddle with the signal connections where they join the harness.
The whole thing is a pita.

I didn't think he disconnected any wiring, just changed out the lights and flasher.

Re: Turn signals not working
Tom, I'm voting with Jeff. When I installed a new electronic flasher it had a fourth terminal for ground. The original bimetal blinkers used the lamp resistance to provide circuit ground. With a timer chip in an electronic blinker I suspect that the chip requires a ground to operate. There may even be a voltage regulator chip to regulate the 6 or 12 volts down for the 5 volt timer chip. So I would try grounding the timer module. The very low current required by LEDs do not allow the old bimetal timer relays to heat up enough to bend the contacts open, hence the need to change to an electronic flasher which blinks at a rate independent of the lamp resistance but it needs a ground. KTF..

Re: Turn signals not working
And based on my conversations with Jim Frazen three years ago when I chased the problem in my car, he directed me to a flasher (timer) like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Flasher-Negative ... ay&sr=8-15
This example is for 6 volts, there is a similar 12 volt also available on Amazon. These are so inexpensive buy two and get the free shipping. You likely won't need the second one, but you are prepared.

My directionals are working! New grounded relay did the trick. Thanks for all the help. Tom
