Re: Third Brake Light
Eric,
A couple of weeks ago I was driving behind a BT6 which had a third brake light on the top of the back window. It was a strip of red leds, the car was converted to 12V. When not lit you could not see there was a light there. I will post a picture tonight.
I am installing such a light.
I found these in Aliexpress, very inexpensive the only drawback is that it takes weeks for the delivery. Also there is other option to buy a led strip and cut it to the length you need, most of these led strips are 12V.

Thanks Hugo,
Like you I would like it to disappear until required.
I look forward to seeing the picture.

Re: Third Brake Light
A few years ago, I also posted the question regarding 3rd brake light options. Charlie White (R.I.P) mentioned using the Hella 911 type rear foglight mounted on his luggage rack.
I do like the idea of mounting an LED strip in the upper rear window. Personally, I think placing the 3rd brake light behind the engine grille isn't a great idea. I would want mine to be visible to the people behind me. I guess it's confusing enough using European taillight lenses with amber stoplights.
If anyone produces a bright 6 volt LED strip, I'd certainly be interested in that setup or something similar.
I may end up duplicating what Dave has shown, using the two Hella rear fogs. That would certainly get people's attention. Isn't that the objective?

Re: Third Brake Light
This was suggested by Eric McKinley in this thread, Jack. It offers both 6 volt and 12 volt strips. http://www.jandlenterprise.com/products ... ighter.htm

Re: Third Brake Light
My Lereyn light has always worked well, but since I have a rear luggage rack, I'm always concerned when I have it loaded. As I looked at some of the pictures in this thread I wondered, has anyone tried to mount one on the bottom horizontal bar of said luggage rack? Which models of these LED lights are waterproof? Thanks!

Re: Third Brake Light
I considered that as a good option Wayne, but was concerned that the unit would not be water tight and could be more prone to failure.

Re: Third Brake Light
I have the Lereyn on my '63 coupe. Pretty much invisible when not lit up. Mounted at the top of the rear windshield puts it at eye level with drivers behind you.
I've seen a lot of variations of a third brake light including using VW reverse lights with red lenses, 911 rear fog lights, etc. Putting one in the deck lid is an option for open cars. I think if I had an open car, I'd opt for a red VW reverse light or a 911 rear fog light mounted to a bumper bracket.

Re: Third Brake Light
Dave and Tom found that company, a good find.
I have spoken to the owner about the product, nice guy and very helpful.
I have ordered one with the bracket, the instructions look fairly simple.
I shall post some pictures once fitted.

Re: Third Brake Light
During the last Palms to Pines, I was following Trevor Gates and Jack Staggs. The car they were driving had a third brake light with (I believe) the Lereyn Flasher connected. When Trevor stepped on the brakes the third light would flash 3 times then come on steady. Very effective.

Re: Third Brake Light
interested in the brakelighter as well, the ability for it to blink when signaling left or right is also nice, let me know how you guys wire that functionality...

Re: Third Brake Light
This page is excerpted from the wiring instructions for the 6-volt negative ground BrakeLighter unit and shows wiring for signaling and braking. The connection to existing wiring is via 'Tee' wiring connectors included with the light.Richard Holler wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2019 1:30 pm interested in the brakelighter as well, the ability for it to blink when signaling left or right is also nice, let me know how you guys wire that functionality...
