Hey guys,
I am neck deep in the restoration of my early 1957 A coupe. I have ran into a few issues that I am unsure of the answers and hopefully you guys can help. I have spent weeks reversing "upgrades" to this car and have now made it to the bumper overrider holes. The previous owner of this 1957 car decided in 1960 to upgrade it to look more modern. He had the bee hive tail lights cut into tear drops, over rider holes welded up, all emblems removed, door mirrors upgraded, rear fenders cutouts "rounded" to run wire wheels, etc...... I have a receipt somewhere( I cant seem to find it) where all this was done at a Porsche dealership out west for the whopping sum of $112. I am already 50 times that amount into reversing all this with a way to go. Anyway my question is, what is the original diameter of the over rider holes in the front and back? Logic dictates the holes would be the same size as the blinker and tail light holes but because of the shoddy welding done when closing the holes in 1960, I am unable to tell. I would greatly appreciate any help about the original size and if all holes ( blinker, over riders. tail lights) are the same size.
Thank you in advance,
J

Re: Bumper overrider hole diameter question
My 1958 A coupe measures 37.5mm. The hole center is slightly above the centerline of the horn grill opening. The edge of the hole is 8.25mm from the closest edge of the chrome horn grill bezel. I will post a pic later.

Re: Bumper overrider hole diameter question
Buy a set of the overrider strut hole rubber seals and make the holes the correct size to fit them.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Re: Bumper overrider hole diameter question
From the '58 workshop manual supplement. 36mm for the overrider braces. At the time this description was done to assist in retrofitting overrider tubes - thus all the specific details. I don't know that I've ever seen a similar description for beehive hole size and location. I have a '55 rear clip and I will measure the beehive hole diameter sometime later today.

Here are the distances for hole center positions for the beehives.
I took the measurements for the '55 coupe shown on the PDF, and someone posted the photo with measurements on this site a couple years ago.

Guys,
Thank you for taking the time to gather the information and answer my questions. While still fairly new to the vintage Porsche world, I have found it to be full of genuine and all around great folks. I am proud to be associated with you guys and look forward to years to come.
