Need crank identification, please help.
Crankshaft identification.... please help... I have a non counterweighted crankshaft with these numbers stamped on it...c666127...then continuing in smaller stamp...013 03.
I cant find ann numbers cast in the part.
What is this? I s it for a B? Why the odd number?
Many thanks?
Mike

Mike,
Based on the indentations on the outside of the rod journals that are found in "cross drilled crankshafts " and no counterweights you have a late, mid year 1962, "B" or "C" crankshaft. Measure the middle main bearing Journals-if 50mm, it's a late "B", 55mm, it's a "C"

Re: Need crank identification, please help.
Thanks so much....I do have a question or so. Why is the Porsche factory number not cast in the crank? Second, what is the number that has been stamped in mean? Who did the stamping?
I just want to be able to prove to the person that wants to buy it that it is a Porsche crank that will fit his B model. Any references would greatly appreciated.

Mike,
Turn over the crank to view a 616--- --- -- # forged, NOT Stamped on 1-of the flanges; Also there's a forged Alfin symbol nearby.
The discussed diameter of the main journals of 50mm for the A/B series or 2-of-3 55mm for the C series (or the rare all 55mm dias.
of the early non-counter weighted crank of the early S90)

As it turn out it is a C crank. Non counterweighted. Ready to install at .20" regrind, done by Ohio Crankshaft in Ohio. Look them up. These guys are on top notch.

Do you really mean 0.20 inch regrind?
Some days it's just not worth chewing through the restraints.....

Re: Need crank identification, please help.
Mike,
Your -0,20 dimension is almost a 1/4"!; - 0.020" (-0,50mm) would be correct--if needed.
The STAMPED number on 1-of the flanks would be correct for an original crank altho I've never seen a missing FORGED part # and the Alfin symbol.
There are aftermarket cranks available but they have counterweights and possibly no #s; Never seen any C cranks being available and that's why
they're more expensive than the SC/912 counterweighted cranks. Of course, a SCAT makes excellant replacements; Dunno if C cranks are made.
