I installed a switch I can reach behind my clock so I can turn it off and save the contact wear until the next drive. I just like hearing the escapement windup the movement. KTF, Bill

The electro mechanical mechanism is an imperfect design in some ways. But with maintenance and some parts replacement it can last. For fun, I even experimented with an old clock face I had used for parts, by fitting an eBay $12 digital movement with battery on the back. Worked fine!
