Trying to figure out oddities on Kardex I just received

#1 Post by Larry Brooks »

Just purchased a 1964 356C from the estate of the longtime owner (45+ years). The car was completed on May 19, 1964, but not sold to it's first owner until December 12, 1964. From what I can tell it was delivered to Riviera Motors in Beaverton, Oregon on June 26, 1964. I'm guessing it was an executive car or possibly a demonstrator for the intervening 7 months. But I can't decipher what it says in parentheses after Riviera Motors, Beaverton, Oregon or what the sentence says on the first line down below.

I'm also wondering why the Kardex has "1966" stamped on it. In the past the date stamped on Kardex's has represented the model year.

Anybody out there good at reading German handwriting?

It reads vorfuhrwagen which is a dealer demonstration car. The December date is the date is was probably sold to the first owner

I've seen date stamps like the '1966' on this Kardex. My '60 Reutter cab has a '1966' stamp at the same location. I haven't been able to find out what it means. Any ideas?

first line on the warranty work states it had transport damage, scratches on the right door and front bumper. Perhaps Riviera fixed those and then turned it into a demo since it wasn't 'new-new' anymore.

Thanks everyone! I just heard back from a friend in Germany and he confirmed what everyone said here:

Concerning the translation I am glad to help you!!
Vorführwagen means demonstrator car
verchr. Lochscheibenräder: chrome rims
Transportschaden 26.06.1964 Haarschrammen a. re. Tür, Kratzer av. Stoßstange
transport damage 26.0601964 hair thin crates on reight door, scratch on front bumper

I ordered the Kardex from a friend in Europe - GOT IT IN AN HOUR AND A HALF! This is a record. In the past it has taken from 12 to 48 hours.
If anyone needs one please contact me and I will put you in touch with him.

Diagonal line means warranty is expired by Porsche America Corp during 1966.

I agree that makes sense. Apparently Porsche extended the warranty to one year after it was sold after being the demo model. Otherwise it would have expired around June 1965.

Thanks Brad!
