Tunnel Cable routing 356C

#1 Post by Hugo Karasawa »

Found these pictures in a Registry's article.
It reads T5/T6 is it the same for a 356C ?

Where should the battery cable go ? inside the sleeve with the wire harness or in the tunnel above the other sleeves ?
The picture is for a Speedster 1957, is it the same for a 356C ?

The late B and the C series were T-6 cars. (1962-65)

certainly enters the same place. If using a new harness be aware that they don't have the covering that the original had to go over the lip where harness enters tunnel.

The battery cable runs in the same "channel" on the upper right (passenger side) of the tunnel. But, it exits the tunnel to the left of the main harness (shown in the photo with the "sleeve" that runs over a section of the main harness).

Thank you Bill. Now clean down to bare metal where the chassis ground attaches and apply some dialectric grease while you still have plenty of room.

Don't forget to fit the proper rubber seals onto the battery and the main harness before you do anything else with the cables at the engine end
The seal for the harness is :- 911 641 520 00 and the battery cable seal is :- 911 611 921 00

That is not the original seal for main harness but it does work.

Robin,
Thanks for the recommendation to use the rubber seals, I was going to ask for the part numbers for those.
Regarding the harness seal I will do the same as in Bill Walte's picture.

Do you have a part number for that? How about the fuel line seal/grommet in the end of the cable, brake line grommet, etc.

Dave the main wiring harness exposed portion from tunnel to engine tin had a rubber cover which is not on replacement harnesses. Bill Waite and I used inner tube to cover that portion of wiring harness. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=38460&p=234769&hil ... ss#p234769 Appropriately sized heat shrink tubing could also be used. As shown above Large battery to starter wire 911 611 921 00 Brake line grommet 914 355 651 00 with clamp # 914 355 652 00 Accelerator rod boot # 356-23 204 fuel line through vertical engine tin grommet is 539 06 605 Heater pull cables use 356 24 408 with sleeve 695 424 711 00 covering cable Now where the fuel hard line exits the center tunnel the grommet may be 914 356 201 00 but I am not positive that this one is correct.

That's a huge help, Doug. Thanks for taking the time!
