Horn Button Attachment

#1 Post by Dennis Vogel »

I'm feeling particularly dense today. How is the horn button (logo cap) intended to attach to the main horn contact piece? Holding the two parts, it is not obvious to me.

I see in the parts catalog a line item (43) for contacts. Looking up that part number (644.347.829.05) it seems to be a rubber gasket. Does this just allow the two plastic pieces to force fit?

Thank you.

The two parts were glued together.

If I am not mistaken there is a very thin wire that goes around the inside perimeter of the horn button which helps hold the crest part in place. Again I'm not sure how well this does its job, I use some blu tack which holds it in place nicely.

Eric is correct. On original horn buttons there is a groove. The B parts manual calls the part that fits in it a "plastic material ring for cover cap". I suspect it's a rubber O-ring.

See Number 43 on diagram. That's an "O" ring that fits inside the horn button. Then you shove the button on the steering wheel. A little lube on the outside of the "O" ring helps.

Be careful about the glue you use on the cap -- some glues will affect the coloring on the plastic and you'll be unhappy.
