Scottsdale
Did all of the auctions this week. In a word, down. Most everything by about 20% from estimates, sometimes more. A lot of no-sales and bargains for no-reserve cars. But the weather was perfect.

Re: Scottsdale
I was there too. I don't track the numbers but it seems like estimates were up As usual lots of high estimates on cars with obvious defects. Perhaps Vic has a take on the numbers.

Re: Scottsdale
Nothing down in the Samba market. This 23 window with sunroof sold for almost $200K at Bonhams. But it was exceptional. A Carrera 2 Cab broke a million at the same auction, and it wasn't a show queen. There were some very nice 356s and a few tarted-up dogs, at several venues. Vic and I will report next issue.

Re: Scottsdale
The 1963 Porsche 356B Carrera 2 GS Cabriolet was the only other car at the Bonhams Scottsdale 2018 sale to achieved a million dollar result when it sold for $1,005,000. This car is one of just 32 made. It is a highly original, matching-numbers example with the desirable four-cam engine. It has been in current ownership for 30 years. As Porsche’s top-of-the-line model when new, the Carrera 2 was the recipient of a host of factory improvements, including the first Porsche model to receive disc brakes.

Estimates were high as usual. Numbers seem strong to me.

Re: Scottsdale
Prices went South imo. Nice lwb 911's definitely pulled back. The black 56 Speedster at Gooding was a no sale with a high bid of $360k. That car had provenance dripping from the tailpipes. Did anyone see that car? Was it rear ended prior to going over the block??

Re: Scottsdale
My observation (down 20% or more) isn't 356 specific. I watched most of Worldwide, RM, Gooding, and Bonhams. Auction houses will probably spin it but the market is down. Walked through Barrett and Russo Steele. A few average or worse 356s, lower end cars at these. Except the Liberty car at Russo, didn't check the sale price on that one.

I found one of my teenage dream cars at RM. A 1959 Fiat 750 GT Zagato. The price was right on this rare old girl. …..Jim.

Double-Bubble. That was a nice car. Someone probably got a deal on the '54 Kaiser Darrin at $100K.

Re: Scottsdale
It goes without saying I never saw a Zagato when I was stationed in Italy. I did see a few 356s though.
