What to do in LA?

#1 Post by Bill Shea »

I'm going to be in Los Angeles from 2/14 to 2/23. Anyone know of any 356 events or any other 'must-see' 356 stuff going on? TIA

You might want to visit a few shops in the area. Klasse 356 (Ed Rutherford) and Tony Callas in Torrance, Dutch Treat (Rob Wessel) in Lawndale, John Willhoit in Long Beach to name a few.

Too bad you won't be here at the beginning of March when there are several open houses in conjunction with the annual Lit Show and swap meet.

Bill,
There is nothing 356 related, but I would highly recommend the Nethercutt collection. Look it up on the net, and on top of that, it’s free.
Your significant other may well appreciate it also...

And within an easy walk to the La Brea tar pits, for some very interesting natural history.

The best place is the Mullin Museum, in Ventura.
Look it up for all the details.
A world class museum.

Enjoy your holiday,
David

I was advised of this 2years ago while visiting a local freind. I managed to get the toll paid on line before the due date and thus avoided the ownerous delinquent fee. I am presently in the same area and set my WAZE to “avoid” all toll roads. Hopefully this working as I am now being directed to all sorts of new (not the ones that I usually take) routes.

Many thanks to all who responded... very helpful. As to the cautionary note on tolls, I'm a little confused. Can you use cash or do you have to use an EZPass-type transponder? Are lanes clearly marked? Finally to Steven McLane: Was the fine really $6.22 or could that have been $62.20?... or (gasp!) $622.00? Thanks again.

The toll road are collected electronically from a pre-established account or on line via our One Time-toll.Because this was my first time driving the toll road without paying the penalty was waived.$6.22 was the toll, who can tell which of ten lanes to travel in?

You get something like 5 days to pay online with no penalty if you don't have the transponder.

Go to Porche Foreign on Alameda St in S Central and tell Ben you are interested in his 356's.

Tell him you want to see all the 356 cars for sale. Racks and racks of 356's. He'll sell you a rusted clip for $15,000
Still a cool sight to see.

Second on the Nethercutt Collection. There are two buildings. One is "walk in" meaning no reservation. Reservation required for the other building/collection. Both free but make the reservation. You won't be disappointed.
