Wolfsburg west sells repair sections, the straight bit. You can clamp it on or weld it.

When all your other options are 'exhausted', there are these pricey buggers:

Given the alignment issues many have seen with Dansk mufflers, could they screw these up? I suppose the flange could be misaligned in relation to the bend. Buyer beware.

Original J-tube outside diameter of 38mm = 1-1/2" can be found @ Home Depot, Lowes; etc.--usually cad plated.

This tubing comes in various lengths and is available for Will Call in Wallingford CT. About 2.4mm wall thickness, 38mm OD (1.5" nominal). The metric tubing they offer seems to be only in 5mm increments, 35mm, 40mm etc.

Re: J tube tubing
I bought the CIP1 Dansk S pipe kit. It had the same problem of being too large in diameter (which is not that big a deal on the exhaust pipes compared with getting a J-pipe leak). And it had another problem in that the longer pipe was about 1/2 an inch too long and would not mate with the "through the bumper" pipe on my C coupe. Had to cut both of these pipes shorter to make them work. Stay away from Dansk if possible.Mark Sabbann wrote:When all your other options are 'exhausted', there are these pricey buggers:

Dave said "stay away from Dansk if possible". Most of us would say "run away from Dansk in all instances". Dreadful product at an exorbitant price as most of us have learned.

Re: J tube tubing
Hi Tom,
My mentioning a source of 38mm (1-1/2") tubing for J-tube repair, the wall thickness is .065" which it fits a rusty tube diameter approx,
1-1/2" from the outlet-hole of the heater box which doesn't get damaged from rustiness. I just check its OD and bored out 1-end of thenew tube about 1" deep for a straight interference fit and Silver Soldered it w/a torch; Welding would burn thru unless tigged--not available
years ago. Then measure the tube's end-length from the port-flange to 11-3/4" and cut off.
See you @ Hershey?

Re: J tube tubing
I have had a couple J Tubes repaired, my suggestion is to take your J Tubes and Muffler to a good muffler shop. Some stock metric sized pipes now, but can make an extension that will cover the rusted out portion. The ones most often sold are by Dansk, and are the wrong diameter to fit an original muffler.

Ab Tiedemann in MD has the right tubing and might sell short lengths. He also has a weld fixture to ensure correct alignment. He repaired a set of mine last year and the result is terrific. You can reach him at afterwerke@comcast.net or 410 357-4949.
