Re: question re; locking hood release mounting bracket
Are there letters/numbers on the locks? There were two different brackets; one for cabs and roadtsers and I believe one for coupes. VW's also had a hood lock available for the Karmann Ghia I believe.
There were also two different grommets for the firewall; one for cabs and the hardtop and the other for the roadster. Not sure why unless it has something to do with the firewall differences if any.
Try a Goodle search for Roy Lock's (RIP) article about the locks.

I tried the google route, but came up empty after several attempts. searching Roy here did the trick.

I Googled " 356 Porsche hood locks + Roy Lock". If you search the Samba for hood locks, there are VW and 356 locks to compare.

Re: question re; locking hood release mounting bracket
VW used the hood locks on the VW and KG-g convertibles. Using the squiggly piece of metal Porsche was able to adapt this to mount on the forward firewall. I believe that you could order the lock on any of the cars. We can provide you with a set of keys for lock if you send us the lock number which is located next to the screw that holds the wire for the hood. This number will begin with SG followed by a number from 1 to 240. If you call us with the number we usually ship the keys to you the next day. I have never seen a key inscribed Porsche. We are unable to locate the blanks the factory used 54+ years ago. Zim's Autotechnik 800.356.2964.

Can you do the same thing with ignition and door lock keys, that is, cut them from the code?
