Wire gauge/size in 356A dashboard instrument gauge (1955)

#1 Post by Robert Liburdy »

Does anyone have info about the wire gauge used in dashboard wiring for the combination instrument gauge in a 356A. I am trying to re-wire the connection between the temperature sender (engine) and the temp gauge (dash board), and I am not sure what gauge wire to use. I searched the forum for "wire gauge specs" and I have the recent 356 Electrics Wiring Manual by J. Leoni (from Stoddard) - but no joy. A lot of technical info about trouble-shooting which was fascinating to read, of course, but I am asking a really basic question about what wire gauge should I use. I know the fuse ratings can be an indication for upper current rating, but I could use some help or advice from an expert weekend 356 wire guru!! Thanks so much, Robert

wiring diagram in worship manual for your year car may have it noted. this link: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=44886&hilit=gauge+of+wire makes it sound like maybe 1.5mm which per Brad can't be found. I think most use 14 or 16 gauge. Or maybe call Y&Z and ask.

Hi Robert
My Wiring diagram shows the temp sender to instrument wire is green/blk 1.0mm wire. Interesting, it shows the oil pressure wire is 1.5mm
BelMetric.com has metric sized wire, but may not have the proper colors. Y and Z would be a good source for the proper colors and size wire.
