Exploding Tires
Anyone who has moved an old 356 has probably had to deal with old dry-rotted tires. We always wondered about one exploding, but had never seen it. But a couple of times over the years it finally happened and if you're standing next to it, the results are scary. We devised a slightly remote way of filling tires. If anyone need details about the components involved let me know and I can send specifics, it required going to a couple of different stores and some trail and error. We tried our final iteration today and it worked flawlessly!

Re: Exploding Tires
Since this is just a roller then full operating pressure isn't needed making this somewhat safer

Re: Exploding Tires
I once had some Mine Safety training which also touched on the dangers of tire changing (specifically for certain truck wheels). Some mechanics who took shortcuts literally lost their heads.

Also, a few years back I was at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix and drove my sister's Cayenne on a 356Burgh tour to Fallingwater (there were two Boxsters on the tour including the leader--the Cayenne wasn't the only non-356).
The 356B in front of the Cayenne was kind enough to demonstrate why you shouldn't drive on really, really old tires: it looked like a Formula 1 tire explosion. We were only going about 50 mph.
I personally put the blown tire into the 356B's trunk after they mounted the spare. It was missing 50% to 70% of its mass.

Re: Exploding Tires
Adam,
Given the number of cars you move, why not contact even a wood-butcher CNC guy to knock out 8 'wheels'? Probably cheaper than the labor you're using now, and no danger at all.

Geez. Used to be you only needed to watch for potholes and nails. Now it's termites too.
Some days it's just not worth chewing through the restraints.....
