He helped me on a number of occasions. As someone once said, when a person of this caliber passes, it is like a library burning.

I never met Ab but we did business

He was a man that you could rely on to produce a super product and was extremely honourable and `correct` in all his dealings

A VERY, VERY sad loss to the community

Adam, that perfect tool you showed in your post was the result of several email conversations Ab and I had. He evidently had been thinking about building it for some time. Finally he said he was going to do it. I forgot about it. I went to Hershey without saying anything to him and when I found him there on the ground next to all his other stuff, and generally being ignored, was the prototype of the lifting bar in your photo. It is now in my garage.

I’ll miss him. RIP Ab.

Steve

I don't know the details but others may speak up.... Ab was a part of the local(Maryland) Bruce Jennings race team gang. He may not have been King Carrera but I believe he was one of the Princes.

Thank you all for your sentiments. Of them all, the one from Richard Ferentz above hits home the most. Tyler and Mike are his grandsons and some of the most solid human beings on the planet. Ab is hugely responsible for the upbringing of their mom and for those two fine young men.

Mark: I'm certain Ab would have loved your joke.

Sad news indeed, Ab was a wealth of knowledge and always willing to share with all.
RIP, my condolences to Pete.

Thanks Mike, good to know. I can't take credit for writing it but it would have been great to share it with Ab in the audience.

Ab's passing is a tremendous loss...a great friend to so many in the 356 Porsche Nation. Ab was the last remaining Charter Member of the PCA Chesapeake Region (March 20, 1961), a participant in the early Porsche Parades...a Max Hoffman Cup winner, and 1st Overall in the 8th Porsche Parade, 1964. Aside from the Marque, Ab Tiedeman was an All-American lacrosse star at the University of Maryland, a legendary mid-fielder for the Mount Washington Lacrosse Club in Baltimore, and a starting member of the U.S. Lacrosse Team in 1967. There will be more about Ab Tiedemann in a future 356 Registry edition. The family will host a tribute to Ab's life in the Spring. My sincere condolences to his wonderful spouse, Helen, to his four daughters, sons-in-law, and to his entire family. Ab Tiedemann...'The Hermit'...Whatta Guy!

Was "The Hermit" just a jokester thing from Ab? It seems to me he had an extremely full family, professional, sporting and social life, hardly a "Hermit".

Dear Ab,

We never met but I feel I know you primarily through exchanged emails and the Forum. Whenever your name appeared on a Forum post I read it even if not interested in the subject matter because of your eloquent presentation and the learning experience.

As a “Forum Friend”, I will miss you as others have mentioned. My 356 run this Sunday, rain or shine, will be in your memory.

God bless you, your family, and those of us who cherish the 356.

Sincerely,

Pete, I offer my condolences to Helen and to you and the rest of Ab's family. In the mid-90's he offered gracious support in my attempt to restore 55100 and made fun of my use of the word 'spendy'. I was his first distributor rebuild customer and am lucky to own some of the tools and parts he produced. I have a Christmas card with a picture of Ab and Helen sporting big smiles while about to drive off in their 356. His is a sad loss but I feel especially lucky to have been able to interact with Ab through this community.
Sincerely, Tom
