Engine Number beginning with AT

#1 Post by Alan Winer »

I have a 64 C Coupe with a replacement engine. The engine is stamped AT*P*716443*
I can not find any reference to the AT preceding the serial number.
Anyone have info on this?
Thanks,
Alan

I believe AT designates an engine replaced by a dealer whereas KD was a factory replacement.

Mike is correct. I believe that the AT engines were factory rebuilt but installed or sold by dealers. When I bought my C it had an AT engine installed that was purchased complete by the 2 nd owner from Stoddard. This link however indicates that AT is just a term that replaced KD. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=33300

AT stands for Austausch or replacement. KD is Kundendienst. I beleieve the AT engines were new replacements whereas the KD engines were factory rebuilt engines.

If AT is dealer and KD is factory. What is a blank with no number?

A replacement part which was not attached to an engine when it left the factory.
And also a candidate for some bozo to try to fake a serial number on it.
