I like Postimage as it is free and you can select the size to post on a forum

Trevor's right. There are lots of ways to resize JPEGs (not all requiring a full Photoshop license) but when you're dealing with a lot of files having to massage each one gets to be a pain.

356 Talk should accept the native file size of common devices, like iPhones.

For what it's worth, here are the sizes of my iPhone photos from Jack Staggs;
2,389,887
2,507,463
4,406,415
4,288,733
4,047,675
2,961,822
2,893,984
3,842,742
2,764,635
2,970,166
3,736,247
3,122,468
2,392,109
2,497,788
3,436,535
2,902,964
2,041,420
2,191,650

Add the pathetic search function for members.
Tread with caution; it did not make me popular with 'those who run the show'. You too can get your wrists slapped.

Could a file size reducer be incorporated into our site that would automatically shrink them as needed? I don't know if that is a simple thing to add or not. Doing it yourself is quite simple if you know how, nearly impossible if you don't get along with computers.

It wouldn't surprise me if it is as simple as changing something in a config file.

+1 about the search function for members. That is unbelievably primitive.

Several times I have simply not bothered to post a cellphone photo because the software says it is too big. Most recently was for the license plate thread.

S Registry automatically re-sizes the images, not sure what their software is, but everything get uploaded at about 100k.

Wow...as I am a relatively new (infrequent) poster here, I really didn't intend to create the sh&t-storm over what the board should or should not do.
I consider it a privilege to post here, so my bad if I stirred up "muddy waters".

Lars - no need to apologize - this issue has been discussed numerous times before and is a pet peeve among many of the users, including me.
I have a request into the site administrators to either install an automagic picture resizer - we had one on a program at work, but I don't know if it would work with the phpBB software. Adam mentions that the 911S Registry has this feature - they use another forum software provider.
Or, increase the picture file size - I'm sure there is a cost associated with doing that as storage space is not free. I suppose if the file size was increased to 3MB, the same complaint will prevail from those that have their cameras on max photo size.
I did a quick google search and there doesn't seem to be a method to take a smaller picture size with an iphone although there is an 'Optimize iphone Storage' choice that stores smaller picture sizes on your device but retains original specs on the cloud storage.
As I said, I have a request logged, but it may be a resource issue as the site admin 'staff' is one person.

An iPhone trick I figured out is silly but it works. If I am taking a picture of something that I know I’m going to post on the forum, I take it from farther away than I usually would. Then open it in your Photos app, click “edit”, and just crop the image down to zero in on the part you want. This effectively removes half the pixels and gets it under the limit. Don’t need to get your computer involved at all. Obviously doesn’t work with existing photos, unless they need cropping. J

Sorry, perhaps I missed the point of this thread. I agree it can be a burden for site with many active members to store 1000's hi-res images over many years, but why not use some of the free hosting site (URL) facilities? Are they considered too risky?

Searching: I mostly find this equation reasonable (with the search terms in front of "site", with space between the desired terms and the word 'site") "site:forum.porsche356registry.org". I am pretty sure I got that on here.

Microsoft offers free software that will downsize one or more files in a few seconds. I use this frequently to upload photos into Google photo albums, post on this and other websites, and attach to emails. (My Hughes satellite service limits file size for attachments.) I use Windows 10, and I think I used the resizer when I had Windows 7. Not sure about IOS or other systems - check the MS site. Compatible with .JPG, .BMP, .PNG and .GIF files.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/resiz ... erviewtab#

After downloading the resizer software: highlight files you wish to resize; right click for the menu bar and left click on Resize Pictures.
Files to Resize.jpg
From the resizer menu select small, medium, large or mobile device and click OK. (Large will reduce a 4 MB file down to a couple hundred KB.)
Select File Size.jpg
In a few seconds (depending on how many files you're resizing) the new smaller files appear in the Explorer window. You can create a subfolder to store the resized files, leave them as is or delete them after using them as attachments.

If you're on a MAC, re-sizing is easy, go to file, then drop down to export, it allows you to re-name the files and then change the size. That's what I do to get around the 2MB limit, or I send them from my phone at lower resolution.

I feel like the kids in the "Peanuts" videos. When an adult is speaking to Charlie Brown et al, all you hear is bwaw ba bwaw bwaw bwaw as the kid stands there with a blank look on his face. Now that I think of it, it really reminds me of grammar school with the nuns.

For the record, talking to your animals does not make you crazy, it's when they start talking back that you need to send up a flare. Mine are yet to respond, but I hold out hope.
