Ah--David;

The rotor only goes onto its shaft 1-way.

The ignition rotor does Dick but the sensing rotor for the pick up can fit 4 positions and there a 4 magnets supposedly identical and equidistant from the pick up.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

It wouldn't hurt to check for a vacuum leak. Put your hand over the barrel and see if it speeds up or dies. That wouldn't explain plugs going bad though.

As I said before the problem have occur for a long time.

Old/new cyl, pistons problem occur on cyl. 2
Mechanical or ignitor ignition system problem occur on cyl. 2
I have also change the distributor same problem on cyl. 2

I Will try to change cables
I do all mechanical works with my car by myself from changeing spark plug to
Restore the gearbox on my 356.

Ingemar,
Merry Christmas to you!
Years ago, when I was driving a 356 as my only car, I found it would start on three cylinders during rainy or even damp days. A friend suggested I try Bosch platinum series spark plugs and I did. They worked perfectly and I never had the problem again. These were the old BP7 series, made with Volvo and Saab engines in mind. I still use them and the car always starts on all four cylinders, even after long periods of inactivity.
Of course, do replace the ignition wiring and follow the advice the other members have suggested but try a switch to Bosch or NGK platinum spark plugs first.

My car was acting the same way for a number of years, thought it was a ring or valve guide problem. It was a bad wire/connector. Turns out if you ignore the basics of trouble-shooting it won't get figured out.
