installing radio antenna cable through body?

#1 Post by tom collingwood »

I have my 1959 coupe body in paint.

Installing the red dot antenna and cable for the radio.

The body has some holes in the door jam area. Which is used for the antenna cable?
An idea what the other holes would be for? (there are two small holes above the door hinge that could be used for something?)

One small hole is for the antenna, and the other for the door switch /dome light wire. Originally there was some putty like sealer on both.

So the two small holes are antenna and door switch.

what is the hole for in the large "cone"?

The 'cone' is the mounted portion of the fresh air valve. There is a rod attached to a metal circle that is used to open and close the valve. When the car is in motion the area in the door hinge area is pressurized. When the valve is open (rod pushed into carpet) air is forced into the heat/defrost tube. If the heat is off all the air goes to the windshield. If the heat is on it just adds air into the system. The control rod and circles were really hard to find (read 'expensive') but they are now reproduced by a number of vendors, still not cheap.

Just a reminder. Install the fresh air valves before installing the door for the last time. They can be done after but it's probably faster to take the door back off again.
