50 years ago, Friday the 13th

#1 Post by Steve Douglas »

Not everybody has bad luck on Friday the 13th. It was on December 13th, 1968 when i bought my first 356, a red 59 A Coupe, 63,000 miles and basically slightly neglected original. I still have that car, now with 306,000 miles and driven regularly. A milestone anniversary for me and the car, looking forward to celebrating 60 years, and many more miles.

As requested here's a collage of old photos. Top one from '69 with the bumper repainted but waiting for an override bar. A couple of shots in late 69, as it has the replaced license plate. My son in '79, he's now 41. On the track at Sears Point.
Dan, I plan on taking it to the Cambria North South, it's sort of a tradition...
Way too many memories with the car, from being 20 and going to school, to being 70 and still feeling like "I'm home". As a present for "ruby" she got new shocks last week and new carpets soon.

An auspicious anniversary Steve !!

I was 6 years old in 1968 and it was to be another 40 years before I bought my 356.... a ruby red 1959 A.

Here's wishing you many more 356 miles.

Steve, Great pictures. I also bout my 55 Speedster in 1965 two months before graduating from high school, how ever I have not keep track of the total miles on my car I still enjoy driving it and at 74 I also enjoy cruising with the top down and dreaming of trips past with it. May you enjoy many more years with the coupe.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.

George
