Last Karman 356C

#1 Post by Charles H Jacobus »

Does anyone know what the last number for a produced Karman 356C was? My book shows the range from 219070-222579 but since that's a range of 3500 and I thought there were only 1101 produced, I'm assuming that was a block given and they didn't use all of them. If the number 1101 in Hagerty's is correct for 1965 Cs, I would guess you could assume they actually started at 219070, but I'm thinking the expertise on this web site knows precisely.

Thanks

Chuck

My reading is that they started at 215001. My first Karman was 216379 built in late 63. More C's were built than any other model.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Sorry, David I meant to say 1965 Karmann 356Cs. They say 8,567 for 1964Cs

I just looked on the registry page and it says they 219070.0 221482.0 but I think the finish number is an allocation number as Hagerty says 598 cabs and 1101 coupes and I've seen that somewhere else also.

Apples and oranges Charles. Your figures may be for built in 64 65 models. I had 222188 a 65 SC back in 85. Production year 65 65 models 221483-222580. Not sure what the numbers of the last police cars built in 66 were. They may have been Porsche bodied. The 66 built cabs were 162166-162175 so Porsche bodied not Karmann.

221479 is the last on in the DB so maybe it did go all the way to 82.

I've got 221724 a MARCH 1965 produced Karman C coupe FWIW. It should be in the database as there is some info from a previous owner posted about it.

222580 was the last Karmann built coupe (Jan 21, 1965), completed by the plant for delivery on 4/23/65.
131930 was the last Reutter coupe (April 28, 1965) although that date does not jive with the build records.

the very last 356 to leave the Stuttgart plant was 162175 on May 26, 1966 (it was rotting away in our back yard for a few years, had Dad only known).

as per the D-M Conradt book on 356.

I've got 222053, a pretty late C coupe within a few hundred of the last cars built. Goes nicely with 159286 which is within the first few hundred C cabs built in August of '63. There are some neat differences between the cars because of one being very early and the other being fairly late.

Don't have the Kardex, but I have 222244 apart in paint right now, if someone wants to look at a detail before reassembly.
