57 speedster HP

#1 Post by Charles H Jacobus »

What was the HP for the '57 Speedster? I see 60, 75 and 88 displayed in various publications.

Thanks

If you had a normal which was the most popular choice it was 60 hp, the Super was 75. If you were lucky enough to have a 4 cam car I believe they had 99 hp.

Thanks, Chris. Hagerty has the base at 75 but that sounded high to me.

Charles,

The listed HP for the 4 (or 5 w/the 4-cam GS) are in DIN.
Therefore, SAE HPs are: 60=70, 75=88, 90=102, & 95=108 & the 1500 GS 4-cam is 100=115.

I understand the DIN relationship, but I was just thinking a 57 Speedster was 60 DIN not 75. Red line is below 5,000.

Charles,

The '57 Speedster was listed w/2/pushrod & 1-Carrera GS engine(s) having 70, 88, and 115 SAE HPs.

Thanks, Dick. Hagerty has the base at 75 but that sounded high to me. I think they meant 70, and I think they were quoting DIN.

Dick's first post spelled it out correctly. Hagerty has the wrong number.
