so which two wires need to be swapped again? i think I have black, white and green on my SMD headlights I recently installed. green is ground right, so i assume I need to swap the black and white?
It seems like the wiring on my headlights is backwards and I had to play with the pin out configuration to get it to light up.
high beams and low beams are flipped.

Re: high beams and low beams are flipped.
Original wiring would have been yellow for low beam and white for high with brown being ground. Dash warning light for high beam is taken from fuse #1.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Re: high beams and low beams are flipped.
My SMDs have an extra very high beam that points up at about 70 degrees, the normal low and high beam pattern are super. But they have a leak that lights up overhead signs on the freeway. About 50 meters the greens signs glow during the day. But I like them, I can see the future

Richard - what year is your car? As David points out, wire colors were standardized in the 1956 model year. before that they were different colors - blue for high beam, black for low and ground is white. You can look at your fuse box - fuse 11 and 12 are the high beams, 9 and 10 are low

I think the colors he mentioned are part of the lights, not the car. Richard, whatever wire goes to your brown wire should be the ground, so switch the other two.

just a quick note
The brake light circuit is started on fuse one.
The high beam indicator light is actually generated by a blue wire on supply side of fuse 12.Dash warning light for high beam is taken from fuse #1

My bad Ed, of course it is fuse 12, I read the fuse box backwards. Old age and dyslexia I guess. A bad combo though I would have thought one would cancel out the other.

Re: high beams and low beams are flipped.
Martin is correct, there is a male "adapter" (for lack of a better word) on the SMD lights to connect to the stock 3 prong 356 female receptacle. when I originally received the lights it didn't light up at all, I had to pull the individual pins out and rearrange them in the SMD adapter to get light. I thought I had it right, but looks like the high beam and low were reversed when I pulled the pins. I lived with it for the past summer, but want to correct it now.
thanks all, seems like I just keep whatever is connected to the brown wire alone and swap the other two.
